We are saddened to announce the passing of Carol Helen David (Snider), who passed away peacefully surrounded by family, at Hogarth Riverview Manor on December 10, 2022, at the age of 85.

Born in Fort William, Ontario on December 26, 1936, Carol was a joyous Christmas present for parents Archibald Donald Snider and Beatrice Manetta Snider (Allard), and older sister Glenys. A few years later they welcomed younger sister Dona, and together, according to the stories, the three girls raised more than just a bit of trouble on Southern Ave., and then Cameron St. Mom went to Drew Street and Central Public Schools and from there on to the Fort William Vocational School.

In a decision that would be destiny, Mom enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force early in 1956 as a nurse’s aide, and in that same year while posted to Trenton Air Force Base, she met and married her lifelong love, Edmond David. Mom and Dad were married for 62 1/2 years, until Dad’s passing in 2019.
Mom had many fond memories of going to camp as a teenager at Johnson’s Landing at Pass Lake. Going to camp would prove to be something she enjoyed throughout her life, from Johnson’s Landing to Bay’s End, to Pigeon River. Mom was our superhero! She kept us, and the house, always ship-shape. The cookie jar was always full, there was always fresh baking cooling on the counter, and a hot lunch waiting for us on school days. But word of warning! If you ever tried to dip a finger in the cookie dough or icing bowl, you never did it twice! She was lightning quick with that wooden mixing spoon!  Mom loved getting visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always asking about them.

In her senior years, they moved from the family home on Donald St., to McKellar Place, then after Dad passed, Mom moved to Sister Leila Greco apartments.
Carol is survived by aunt Celie Agostino, sister Dona Toohey, children Lorraine (Wade) Rooney, Jeannette David, and Pierre (Stephanie) David. Grandchildren Karie (Colin) Ortgiese, Melissa Rooney (Neil Granatstein), Michelle (Richard) Woodbeck, Michael Wu, Rachael (Matthew) Pollex, Kathryn Wu, and Mary David. Great grandchildren Morgan, Lukas, and Lauren Ortgiese, and Brody and Reese Woodbeck.

Carol is predeceased by husband Edmond David, parents Archie and Beatrice Snider, sister Glenys Huskie, brothers in law Jack Huskie and Peter Toohey, grandson David Wu, and great grandson Charlie Rooney.

Mom’s funeral will be held in St. Patrick's Cathedral on January 11th, 2023, at 10:30 AM. Private interment to follow at St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

The family sends our sincere thanks to the staff and fellow residents on 6th Floor North at Hogarth Riverview Manor. You provided excellent care and friendship to our mother. She had nothing but kind words for you all.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice are greatly appreciated.
