It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bianca Maria D’Angelo; she left us peacefully at the age of 96, on Monday, June 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Ortona, Italy, in 1928, Bianca’s early life was marked by hardship and resilience. She lost her mother, Carmelina, at the age of 11 and lived through the devastation of the Battle of Ortona during World War II. In 1953, she married her beloved husband, Albert, and soon after, they immigrated to Canada. They made their home in Albert’s hometown of Thunder Bay, where they built a life rooted in love, family, and community. Together, they raised two children and shared 53 wonderful years of marriage until Albert’s passing in 2006.
Bianca was a gifted cook and gardener, known for her delicious pasta dishes and the fresh vegetables and herbs she lovingly grew. Her home was a warm and welcoming place, always open for holidays and special family gatherings. She also had a passion for knitting and sewing—her family will fondly remember the cozy sweaters and slippers she made with care.
As a devoted mother and Nonna, Bianca was the heart of her family. She selflessly prioritized the wellbeing of her husband, children, and grandchildren, offering unwavering support and encouragement. She cherished the time spent with her six grandchildren, creating lasting memories through sleepovers, shared meals, and special moments.
Faith was a cornerstone of Bianca’s life. She found great comfort in attending church and reading the Bible. Her kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others touched the lives of many. She was a true matriarch whose presence will be deeply missed.
Bianca is lovingly remembered by her son Mark (Stephanie), daughter Patricia Patola (Tim), grandchildren Christopher (Anna), Sarah (Tom), Nathan (Tiffiney), Ulysses, Vanessa, and Katrina (Bryan), and great-grandchildren Emily, Madeline, and Claire, as well as her sister-in-law Annette O’Brien.
She was predeceased by her husband Albert, infant son Stephen, mother Carmelina Moro, father Clito Bernabeo, stepmother Carmela, and brothers Rocco and Giuseppe, along with many other cherished family members.
Thank you to the staff of 5 South Orchid at Hogarth Riverview Manor for taking care of mom for the past nine years.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 21st at 11:00 a.m. in St. Dominic’s Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Blake Funeral Chapel, 200 May Street S.
