It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Bernice Lee Stewart (nee Hanna).

Mom passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on February 21, 2023, at the Extended Care Wing of the Atikokan General Hospital.

Betty was born in Gladstone, MB, to Wesley and Clair Hanna. She knew Dad for many years before they were married as their families were friends who lived on neighbouring farms. Dad left the farm and moved to Atikokan to work for Steep Rock Iron Mines. Mom followed soon after and they were married on December 23, 1955.
Mom had numerous jobs, but her favourite was raising her six children. After Dad retired, she went to work for Proboard, in Atikokan, until her retirement.

Left to mourn are her six children: Shelly (Steve), Wendy (Terry), Dale (Sandra), Becky, Bob, and Bonnie. Her 11 grandchildren: Bo (Carla), Cassey (Peter), Jesse, Tanis, Ryan (Shonagh), Chase, Milo (River), Gage, Justin (Natasha), Josh (Janine), and Hannah. Also her nine great-grandchildren: Raeya, Emily, Madelyn, Kiera, Ryker, Asher, Taylor, Wyatt, and Ava, as well as her brother, Bill Hanna, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband of 60 years, Stan, brothers, Murray, Lloyd, Jack, and Doug, and sister Ruby Hanna.

A quiet family gathering, at her graveside, will take place in the spring.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Rodriguez, the wonderful and kind nurses, PSWs, and staff for their care of Mom, and Kara who kept Mom and the other residents occupied with her assorted activities for them.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Extended Care Wing of the Atikokan General Hospital or charity of your choice.
