In the very early morning of Wednesday, June 11, 2025 Allen Floyd James Veley was searching for God, his mommy and Arlene, at 6:30 am he found them.
In Dad's career as a mechanic he was well respected and liked from his time at Lakehead Motors working on cars he moved on to Kingsway/Motorways transport where many early morning call outs were normal. His last job at Pinewood Ford he oversaw the daily running of the heavy duty truck department until his first stroke forced him to retire.
While raising us girls, Dad loved camping, hunting, fishing, blueberry picking, travelling, his corn roasts and snowmobiling parties. Family meant the world to dad and being a big kid at heart he enjoyed taking us fishing, pulling us behind the boat on our surf board and in the winter making us the most amazing slides, pulling us on a sled or tube behind the snow machine and so many other fun things. Once at Hogarth dad still loved getting out and about on his wheelchair, nothing slowed him down.
Dad loved sharing his knowledge and teaching us daughters to be strong, independent and respectful. We learned so many things from dad, from fishing, building a house, and of course cars - except Sonia still needs to learn how to change a tire, but don't worry dad, she has CAA.
After surviving at least 4 strokes, broken ankle, broken hip he could no longer live in his apartment. He moved into Hogarth Riverview Manor in January 2024, he had no problem settling in and made many friends with staff and residents. The staff made him "floor supervisor" as dad was always making sure everyone was at the right table and being treated well. Dad had many "girlfriends" that us girls always bugged him that he attracted the ladies - they thought he was so handsome and sweet.
His last outing was in April to see Carol Bakker, which he enjoyed very much.
At the end, Dad only wanted his daughters by his side and out of respect for him we choose to follow his wishes. Dad always told us and staff that his girls were all he had left. We never left him alone in his last 5 days, until he left Hogarth.
Allen was meet at the Pearly gates by his Mom - Hazel, Dad - James, sister - Ida, brother - Clifford and the love of his life Arlene.
Survived by his 2nd wife Shirley, her boys, Darrin (Lucy), Brad (Tina), Scott (Melinda) and their children. His brother, Archie, sisters Lenora (Mogens), Peggy (Gerard). His devoted daughters who were always there for him, Vicki (George), Carol (Frank), Donna, Ellen, Sonia (Mark). Grumpy will be missed by his grandchildren, Rodney, Adam, Kandus (Rocky), Kayla-Jo (Fernando), Trevor (Tonja), Brandon, Matthew (Pearl). His great grandchildren, Logan, Emilia, Liam and Abigail.
"Big" Al, Papa, Dad, Allen will be missed by the staff of Hogarth and many residents, especially his great neighbor and buddy "Big" Bill.

We Love you Dad/Grumpy, you will be in our hearts forever.
