FORT FRANCES, Ont. -- Magnus Pearson made a pretty good opening night impression.
The rookie Thunder Bay North Stars forward scored twice on Saturday night to lead the Superior International Junior Hockey League club to an 8-1 road win over the Fort Frances Lakers to kick off the 2022-23 campaign.
Edison Weeks had a goal and two assists for the visitors, while Noah Broughton added three helpers in the lopsided victory.
Easton Glousher, Matthew Halushak, Dimitri Trahiotis, Julian Rutland and Dylan Winsor also scored for Thunder Bay.
Brandon Kelly had the lone goal for Fort Frances, evening the score at 10:57h of the first. The Stars scored three times in the opening stanza and four more times in the second.
Kam River 2, Dryden 1: The Fighting Walleye picked up their second win in as many nights, Braeden Duchesne netting the winner at 16:19 of the second, breaking a 1-1 tie.
Euan Morrison had the other Kam River goal, with Landen Stromme scoring the Dryden tally at 5:43 of the second.
Wisconsin 4, Red Lake 2: The Lumberjacks raced out to a 3-0 lead and held on to double up the defending SIJHL champion Miners to earn a weekend sweep over Red Lake. Salvatore Poggiali had a pair of goals for Wisconsin (2-0-0), with singles going to Connor Hacker and Ryder McMillen. Aiden Corbett and Jacob Lamoureux scored for Red Lake (0-2-0).
