RED LAKE — A worker has been killed in an incident at the West Red Lake Gold Mines Madsen mine in Red Lake.
The company reports an employee working underground was fatally injured early Monday morning.
The person's identity has not been released yet, and a brief statement provided no details about the incident.
However, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development said it was told the worker died after being struck by equipment.
The company said it is working closely with the ministry and other authorities, and that an investigation and comprehensive review are underway.
Operations at the mine have been voluntarily suspended.
"The thoughts of management are with the family, friends and colleagues who have been impacted by this tragic incident," president and CEO Shane Williams said on behalf of the company.
The mine only recently resumed production after being idle since 2022.
