KENORA — Ontario's Special Investigation Unit is looking into the circumstances of an incident involving a person taken into custody in Kenora on the weekend.
According to a statement issued by OPP late Sunday evening, officers spotted a woman who was the subject of an outstanding bench warrant on Saturday, and placed her under arrest.
She was then taken to the Kenora OPP detachment where she was subsequently lodged in the cells pending a bail hearing.
Shortly before 2:00 a.m. Sunday, the female prisoner went into medical distress.
She was taken to Kenora hospital, but OPP did not provide information about her condition.
Police said they have notified the SIU, which has invoked its mandate to investigate, and that any more details will have to be obtained from the SIU.
Newswatch has reached out to the Special Investigations Unit for additional information.
