Wellington Street rebuilding project may be delayed

Water levels over local streets continues to cause delays as the Township of Sioux Lookout begins rebuilding projects.

Sioux Lookout—The Municipality of Sioux Lookout continues to monitor water over Wellington Street, as this situation may lead to delays in the rebuilding project scheduled to begin June 24.

Public works and infrastructure manager, Jeff Hawley, informed residents affected by this rebuild, that although the Wellington Street rebuild project is scheduled to begin this week, and continue throughout the summer that, “This may be delayed due to the water over the road on the by-pass and any repairs needed to the section of road that is currently under water,” said Hawley.

Residents were also told that to address safety concerns with high pedestrian volumes, the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, will start work on a set of lights and a pedestrian crosswalk on the south side of Sturgeon River Road and Highway 72.

Hawley, added that this work is expected to begin late next week and be complete by early September. “Expect traffic delays, with traffic reduced to one lane during peak time and up to 15 minutes of complete closure in both directions during off-peak hours,” indicated Hawley.
