Violent assault leads to four arrests

Two people remain custody following an Aug. 5 incident in Mishkeegogamang First Nation.

MISHKEEGOGAMANG FIRST NATION – Four suspects were arrested after a violent incident in Mishkeegogamang First Nation.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service say officers responded in the evening hours of Tuesday, Aug. 5 to a reported assault in the community.

The investigation informed officers that several individuals were earlier involved in an altercation outside of a home on Muddy Lane.

Police learned two males had allegedly used blunt objects to smash windows at the home and a violent altercation ensured between the two males and another group of male suspects. Two of the males suffered injuries and were transferred to the community nursing station for treatment and later transported to a hospital in Thunder Bay for further evaluation and treatment.

The extent of the injuries is not known, but they are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 21-year-old male from Mishkeegogamang First Nation is charged with mischief under $5,000, uttering threats – damage to property and possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose.

He was released with conditions and a future court appearance.

A 30-year-old male from Mishkeegogamang First Nation was charged with two counts of assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000, failure to comply with a probation order and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.

He was released with conditions and a future court appearance.

A 28-year-old male from Mishkeegogamang First Nation is charged with aggravated assault, four counts of failure to comply with a release order and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.

A 35-year-old male from Mishkeegogamang First Nation was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
