SIOUX LOOKOUT—Important dates and reminders regarding the local flood situation, was provided by the Township of Sioux Lookout.
Their update notice asks residents and the public, to remember not to drink water from the lakes, or from wells that may have been compromised due to the flooding situation.
In addition, their reminder stated that, “When enjoying boating or other water-based recreational activities, please remember that there is a lot of debris in the area lakes due to the flooding - this debris can be a hazard to boaters; additionally, given the high water levels, markers may have moved, rocks that are normally visible may be covered, etc.”
City officials are asking that boaters refrain from coming too close to shore to avoid creating waves onshore which can exacerbate the impact of flooding in low-lying areas.
Furthermore, for residents looking for empty sand bags this weekend, they can get them at the Recreation Centre on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. - sandbags will not be available at Public Works this weekend.
Sandbags will not be available on Monday, May 23. The public can fill your sandbags at the Ball Diamonds on Third Avenue where the municipality will continue to replenish the supply of sand there throughout the weekend.
