KENORA—The City of Kenora provided an update to evacuees affected by remedial road work which began north of the bypass.

According to their update the city stated that, “City crews have been closely monitoring water levels which have shown some consistency over the last week. As a result, work resumed on East Melick Road and Essex Road intersection to lay the top surface on the new raised road.”

Once this work was completed, the city shifted its focus to the flooded area of East Melick Road that is north of Bells Point Road, similar efforts will be made to raise the roadway to a safe level as has been completed near the Essex Road intersection.

The city announcement indicated that as early as, “Friday, May 20, evening, residents who live along East Melick Road between the Portier bridge and the Essex Road intersection (this includes Victoria Crescent, Decemvir Drive, Bell Point Road and Aube Drive) should have access back to their homes.”

They offered their gratitude to the public, especially the residents who have been affected by this evacuation, and assured the community that the decisions made have all been made with the safety of their residents in mind. Their Public Works staff has continued to work as quickly as possible to get people back to their homes.
