FORT FRANCES—As the Township of Fort Frances continues to monitor and take necessary action to guarantee the protection of critical infrastructure, and properties the Municipal Emergency Control Group provided updates.
Their primary update deals with closures both pedestrian and vehicular affecting these areas:
- Front Street between Minnie and William Avenue
- Front Street between Armit Avenue and Mosher Avenue
- Front Street walking path
- Front Street Bike path
- Front Street playground
- Front Street fitness equipment
- Sorting Gap Marina gas docks and boat launch
- Lookout Tower and the Hallet
- Crowe Avenue dock
- Point Park and Seven Oaks closed for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Residents were ensured that access to La Verendrye Hospital and Riverside Health Care is still available through all entrances.
The community is asked to recognize that the reason that these areas are closed is to protect the public, and to please avoid attempting to go around barricades, which is also against the law.
Furthermore, the city reminded boaters on Rainy Lake and Rainy River to be aware of boat speed and wakes to help prevent erosion along the shorelines.
According to their notice, the City of Fort Frances also updated sandbagging operations. “Sandbagging has moved to the Shevlin Wood Yard and volunteers are welcome to assist.”
Dates for the sandbagging operation has been extended Monday-Sunday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Volunteers are asked to register with town staff at the command trailer.
As a final update, the city indicated that as of this time, all damns are operating within normal operating capacities.
