Two youth drown in Dryden river

The youngsters, aged 15 and 12, were seen entering the Wabigoon River late on Thursday afternoon and were later pronounced dead at hospital after being pulled from the water.

DRYDEN – Two youth drowned tragically on Thursday in the Wabigoon River in Dryden.

Ontario Provincial Police on Friday said emergency services responded to the call at about 4:10 p.m. after the two youths were seen entering the river.

A 15-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl did not resurface from the water.

The OPP’s emergency response team, the Dryden Fire Service and Emergency Medical Services attended to assist.

Both children were located and recovered from the water and transported to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The identities of the victims are not being released out of privacy for the family, said police.

The investigation remains ongoing.
