RED LAKE — Shortly after 9 p.m. on April 3, officers with the Red Lake OPP detachment were out on patrol on Howey Street when they observed a passenger in a parked vehicle littering, according to an OPP release.

The OPP stated that the on-duty officers conducted a traffic stop.

During the traffic stop, the officers found a large amount of suspected oxycodone tabs, codeine tabs, crack cocaine and cocaine.

The street value of the drugs, travelling to Sandy Lake First Nation, was approximately $50,000.

As a result, a 49-year-old and a 50-year-old from Sandy Lake First Nation have been arrested and charged with three counts of drug trafficking.

Both accused have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the court on July 18.
