FORT FRANCES – Two people have been charged within hours of each other following reports from concerned citizens that they were driving while impaired.
Ontario Provincial Police received a call at approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday evening from a concerned citizen who reported that a driver was driving erratically and was possibly impaired.
The driver and vehicle were located on Highway 11 in Emo Township and stopped by police, who said that the investigation revealed that the driver was impaired, and they were taken into custody for further testing at the Fort Frances OPP detachment.
The accused is charged minally with operation while impaired alcohol and drugs, refusal to comply with a demand, and obstruct peace officer. The vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver's licence suspended for 90 days and then was released by police and is scheduled to appear in the Rainy River Ontario Court of Justice in June to speak to the charges.
An hour later at approximately 8:30 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police received another 911 call from a concerned citizen reporting an erratic driver who was possibly impaired.
Both driver and vehicle were located on Highway 11 in Watten Township and stopped by police.
Police said that roadside testing was conducted which resulted in the arrest of the driver and further testing at the Fort Frances OPP detachment.
The accused in that incident was charged with two impaired driving related charges..
The accused's vehicle was impounded for seven days, driver's licence was suspended for 90 days, and they got an additional charge under the Liquor Licence and Control Act with having liquor readily available.
The was released by police and is scheduled to appear in a Fort Frances court in June to speak to the charges.
