FORT FRANCES – As part of Ontario’s Connecting Links program, the cities of Dryden and Fort Frances have received $4,909,250 for road repair.
The funding will help these municipalities maintain vital infrastructure within their communities.
Dryden will receive $1,207,008 for the reconstruction of Highway 594 easterly from Gordon Road.
"On behalf of the City of Dryden, I wish to thank the Ministry of Transportation for the funding to reconstruct a portion of Hwy 594. This section is an important roadway, as it's the final stretch connecting Dryden with the Rainy River District and the U.S.A.,” said Dryden’s Mayor Jack Harrison.
In Fort Frances, $2,070,048 is earmarked for Third Street West from Central Avenue to York Avenue, while $1,632,194 is for Scott Street from Reid Avenue to Mosher Avenue.
Fort Frances Mayor Andrew Hallikas said: “This Connecting Links funding will allow the Town of Fort Frances to proceed with much-needed reconstruction of some of our infrastructure and is indicative of the provincial government's commitment to small rural Northern communities.”
The Connecting Link is a government funding program that municipalities can apply for to help supplement the burden on taxpayer dollars to fix critical infrastructure such as roads and bridges.
“Our investment of nearly $5 million in the City of Dryden and the Town of Fort Frances demonstrates our commitment to reliable road infrastructure, keeping families across the Northwest safe,” said MPP Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development.
