Two charged with drug trafficking in Sandy Lake

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) has arrested two individuals for drug trafficking in Sandy Lake First Nation.

SANDY LAKE – Nishnawbe Aski Police Service reported that officers executed two search warrants at residential addresses in Sandy Lake during the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 19.

They seized a quantity of cocaine, hydromorphone pills, cash, an imitation firearm, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

The estimated street value of drugs seized totals about $20,000.

Two female accused were taken into custody without incident.

A 33-year-old Sandy Lake First Nation woman is charged with two counts of drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

A 46-year-old Sandy Lake First Nation woman is charged with drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Both have been released with conditions and a future court appearance date.

The names of the accused are withheld until the charges against them have been formally sworn in before the courts.
