The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service has arrested two people for allegedly trafficking drugs in North Spirit Lake.

NORTH SPIRIT LAKE — More than a quarter million dollars worth of suspected crack cocaine and oxycodone was seized at a remote First Nation airport.

In a media release issued by Nishnawbe Aski police on Tuesday, police said officers were called about “an incident” at the North Spirit Lake airport Saturday morning. When police arrived, NAPS said, they were told two suspects had entered the community on a flight from Winnipeg allegedly carrying drugs.

Police said those drugs were suspected to be crack cocaine and oxycodone with an estimated street value of more than $260,000.

A 38-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with possessing cocaine and oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking. Police said charges against a 25-year-old woman from North Spirit Lake, who police did not name, were “pending.”

The man was held in custody after a bail hearing on Monday, police said. He’s due back in court at a later date.

Police said they continue to investigate.

North Spirit Lake is about 300 kilometres north of Dryden.
