KENORA – The Transportation Safety Board has released an update on a fatal plane crash that occurred on Shore Island, near Kenora, on Sept. 21.

Although the name of the victim has yet to be released to the public, the TSB stated Wednesday that the pilot, the sole occupant of the amateur-built Arion Lightning craft, began their flight at Baudette International Airport in Minnesota.

“An amateur-built Arion Lightning aircraft was conducting a flight from Beaudette Intl, Minnesota to Roseau/Billberg Field, Minnesota,” the agency stated in a release.

According to the TSB release, the aircraft impacted with terrain on the island "while conducting a fly-by of [a] cabin."

The accident occurred about 15 nautical miles, or around 28 kilometres, south of Kenora, the TSB said.

"The pilot, who was the sole person onboard, received fatal injuries," the TSB said. "The aircraft was destroyed.'

TSB investigators attended the site on Sept. 22 and continue to gather information.
