Trucker charged with careless driving after collision

A tractor-trailer crashed in the front yard at a Minnitaki residence.

DRYDEN — Ontario Provincial Police have charged a British Columbia truck driver after a single-vehicle collision west of Dryden on the weekend.

OPP, firefighters and paramedics all responded after a tractor-trailer left Highway 17 and crashed in the front yard of a residence of a Minnitaki-area residence, dumping its cargo of peat moss in the process.

The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday.

In a social media post, a resident reported he and his family were awakened by a "really loud bang."

The collision knocked down a utility pole and resulted in extensive damage to the transport truck and a parked pickup truck, but no one was injured.

Police said a 29-year-old man from Kamloops is charged with careless driving and failure to have a vehicle insurance card.

The owner of the residence told Dougall Media the highway was clear and dry at the time of the collision.

He said he travels about 25 km to and from work each day on Highway 17, and the number of collisions on the road is making him feel increasingly concerned about his and his family's safety.
