Traffic stop results in charges in Balmertown

Through their investigation, officers determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol.

BALMERTOWN – A traffic stop resulted in one individual being arrested and charged with impaired driving.

On April 14, just after 3:30 a.m., officers with the Red Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on Dickenson Road in Balmertown. 

Through their investigation, officers determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The individual was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Red Lake OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, a 29-year-old of Balmertown was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with: 

  • Operation while impaired - Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired - Alcohol and drugs
  • Disobey stop sign - Fail to stop - two counts 

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 20.
