ATIKOKAN – A traffic stop in Atikokan has led to the arrest of two people.

The incident occurred on June 24, according to police, when officers stopped a vehicle to check document compliance and found one of the passengers was violating a court-ordered prohibition.

The passenger was arrested and the vehicle was searched, with a small amount of suspected cocaine and trafficking paraphernalia was allegedly uncovered, which led to a second arrest.

A 40-year-old from Atikokan was charged with one count of possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition and one count of failing to comply with probation.

The man was held by police ahead of a scheduled bail hearing on Monday.

A 34-year-old woman from Atikokan was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of unmarked cigarettes.

She was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Fort Frances on July 31.

It is Newswatch policy not to name suspects in cases in which we do not expect to follow the case through to its conclusion in court.
