Red Lake — A 56-year-old Red Lake man has been charged with impaired driving after Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop.

On Sunday, Aug. 17 at about 10:20 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle in Red Lake for a Highway Traffic Act violation. During the stop, the driver failed a field sobriety test and was taken to the detachment for further evaluation.

Further Drug Recognition Expert Tests were conducted, leading the officer to believe the driver was under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant.

The driver has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs.

He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Red Lake in October.

His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
