Environment Canada is cautioning that conditions are favourable for thunderstorms to develop that could bring strong winds, large hail and heavy rain to parts of the region.
A severe thunderstorm watch was issued Friday afternoon for areas including Atikokan and other eastern parts of the Rainy River district, Ignace, and Pickle Lake and some remote northern locations.
The advisory area extends east to Thunder Bay and some parts of the Lake Superior north shore, and south to the U.S. border.
The threat of severe thunderstorms is expected to decrease in the evening.
