A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect across most of the region Friday afternoon.
Environment Canada said the storms are capable of producing strong winds and large hail.
The watches have also been issued for several areas of Northwestern Ontario, including Kenora, Sioux Lookout, Dryden and Red Lake, Fort Frances and Atikokan.
"Large hail can damage property and cause injury," the advisory cautions. "Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles."
Environment Canada is warning of winds gusting up to 90 kilometres per hour, in addition to hail that could be the size of a quarter.
The storm system is expected to move through during the afternoon and into the evening.
