Thunder Bay man arrested after vehicle clocked at 160 km/h

FORT FRANCES — A motorist from Thunder Bay faces numerous charges after an incident early Sunday on Highway 71.

At about 1:30 a.m., patrolling OPP officers observed a vehicle being driven at a speed of 160 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.

The driver attempted to evade police by parking the vehicle and fleeing on foot, but was located after a brief search.

As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old man was charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, stunt driving, driving without proper rear lights and driving a vehicle without a validated permit.

He also had his driver's licence suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused has a court date to answer to the charges next month.
