Three arrested in drug raid in northern First Nation

Police were investigating the area for possible drug-related activities.

WEBEQUIE — Three suspects were arrested during recent investigations by the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service.

On April 18, officers executed search warrants at two homes within the community of Webequie First Nation as a result of an ongoing investigation by the NAPS Intelligence Unit for possible drug trafficking activity.

Following their search, police located and seized a quantity of suspected cocaine, oxycodone pills, cash, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

Three people were arrested without incident, including two women from the community and a man from Pikangikum First Nation. 

Both female suspects were later released with conditions and scheduled for future court appearances.

The male accused was held for bail court and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
