Thousands in illegal drugs seized at remote airport

Officers got a tip that someone was bringing illegal drugs into the remote First Nation.

NORTH SPIRIT LAKE — Police in the fly-in community of North Spirit Lake First Nation say they seized more that $50 thousand worth of illicit drugs last week.

Officers from Nishnawbe Aski Police Service were called on June 19 about a person who might be bringing drugs into the community. 

Police located the suspect and investigated, according to a media release issued by police Wednesday.

Investigators seized a quantity of cocaine, crack cocaine and methamphetamine that has an approximate street value of $54,000.

A 33-year-old woman from the First Nation was arrested and charged. 

The accused was remanded into custody and has a future court date.
