“We’re excited to be back,” said Devin Latimer, one of the organizers of the Trout Forest Music Festival starting on Friday and through the weekend in Ear Falls.
This year is makes 25 years since the first one said Latimer.
Since COVID has prevented a full, in-person festival the past couple of years, Latimer said they tried a few different options to bring music to the area including streamed concerts and testing out a solar-powered sounds system in a series of small concerts around the region last year. This weekend’s festival is incorporating that system into the set up.
“Seemed like the right time to do something a little bit experimental,” said Latimer. “To present a concert in a new way, hopefully a sustainable way.”
It’s not necessarily to promote solar over any other, said Latimer but they just wanted, “to get people talking about energy like all the pros and cons of different types of energy we have going on in the world.”
Latimer said about 1,000 people a day will experience lots of great stuff with a line up including musicians like Russell deCarle known for his days with Prairie Oyster playing along side Steve Briggs, A Ukrainian ethno-fusion group called Zrada from Winnipeg and the Juno Award winning trio, The Good Lovelies.
The musical workshops being offered during the weekend are what Latimer said he looks forward to the most, especially the ones on guitar playing and vocal harmonies. “You can never tell what’s going to happen in those things when you have multiple performers together.”
