RED LAKE -- Science North will be stopping in to Red Lake as part of their Great Northern Ontario Roadshow next month.
The event is planned to be held at Centennial Park in Red Lake on May 14.
The Great Northern Ontario Roadshow is a travelling expo that brings the excitement of science, culture, art, and tourism out to the communities of North Western Ontario. For this event, Science North has prepared an interactive science show for kids and families to enjoy.
At each stop, local businesses are contacted to take part in the festivities by exhibiting their work for the community. Red Lake Regional Heritage Center director Trevor Osmond has already begun contacting and organizing members of the community that will take part in the event.
“The idea is to make it a community event, and reinvigorate the community spirit that unfortunately COVID had put out,” says Osmond.
The Roadshow is a very new program that Science North had initially formed and planned to start back in 2019; but when COVID came, they were unable to put It on.
Science North is located in Sudbury that has been providing fun ways to introduce science education for Northern Ontario. They have done many day camps and workshops around the province for years. They have even been able to expand their services by opening an office in Thunder Bay.
“We are hoping to reenergize the tourism industry that has been down since COVID hit,” says Science North’s North-West Showcase delivery facilitator, Monica Prodnyk.
There will be three showings of the Science North show at the Roadshow to accommodate for people attending at different times; at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. These shows will feature science experiments and interactive activities for kids. There will also be live music, food vendors, and artisan vendors set up.
This event will be free to the public.
