FORT FRANCES – Public officials along the Rainy River border are warning residents that cannon fire will be heard during the opening ceremonies of the Festival of Sail between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. and may also be heard through the rest of the weekend.
“Loud explosive noises can cause anxiety for some individuals who suffer from PTSD including combat veterans and active-duty military, along with other individuals and some pets,” said Valerie Marasco Eliasen – Public Information Officer for the Lake County Emergency Operations Center. “We want to give the community a heads-up so they are able to mentally prepare for this experience.
Public safety officials from the state side of Rainy Lake are advising the public not to fly their drones during the U.S Festival of Sail.
According to Minnesota’s Public Information Officers release, individuals who fly an Unmanned Aircraft System without permission from Tall Ships Two Harbors may be subject to penalties by the Federal Aviation Administration and the United States Coast Guard for operating aircraft, without permission, around a temporary, regulated facility.
