PIKANGIKUM FIRST NATION — Police are investigating a death in the community that has been deemed suspicious.

Provincial police said they, along with Pikangikum Peacekeepers and Pikangikum Police, responded Monday evening to a residence on Fishhouse Road where one person was found and taken to the nursing station, where they were pronounced dead.

Police said an autopsy will take place in Toronto at a later date to confirm the identity of the individual and the cause of death.

No further details about the circumstances of the death have been publicly released, but police said investigators do not believe there is an imminent threat to public safety.

The investigation continues with involvement from Pikangikum Police, along with the OPP's north west region crime unit and forensic identification services under the direction of its criminal investigations branch, as well as the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
