WUNNUMIN LAKE — A 22-year-old Wunnumin Lake woman faces drug trafficking-related charges after Nishnawbe Aski police say they caught her with crack cocaine and a synthetic opioid.

In a media release issued Wednesday morning, the First Nations police force said they were called to the Wunnumin Lake airport on June 14 about an “ongoing incident.”

When officers arrived, the service said, they were told that airport security became aware of a person who was suspected of bringing drugs into the First Nation, located about 500 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.

The suspect allegedly had suspected crack cocaine and buprenorphine, a long-lasting synthetic opioid, in her possession. The street value of the cocaine alone, police said, tops $77,000.

She’s been charged with possessing both substances for the purpose of trafficking and has been released from custody with conditions and a future court date.
