SIOUX LOOKOUT – At approximately 6 p.m. on May 14, Sioux Lookout OPP and Fire Services responded to a fire on Lakeshore Drive.

Upon arrival, they found a women's bathroom facility at the town beach that had caught fire.

During their investigation, OPP and Fire services suspect the incident is a result of arson.

The municipality issued a statement shortly after to explain the facility was closed until further notice.

Once the investigation is concluded, the municipality can determine the extent of the damage to the building and assess the cost of repairs.

“We need time to examine the extent of the damage, assess what is required to remediate the damage, and determine what, if any, steps can be taken to minimize the risk of this type of event in the future,” explained CAO/Clerk, Brian MacKinnon.

“Thanks to exceptional response times from Sioux Lookout Fire Services, damages were minimized, but this will still be costly and time-consuming to repair.”

There is no information about possible suspects or if charges will be laid at this time.
