KENORA—As a result of Kenora Parks and Facility staff conducting and assessing all city-owned docks for structural issues and concerning water levels, several city public docks, have been closed.
The city has worked diligently to keep public docks in useable condition and preserve the structures and floaters of the docks. But, some structures have become unstable and significant water has covered these structures.
In a report provided for the community, Kenora Parks and Facility staff, shared a summary of the state of the city docks:
- Kenora Recreation Centre - CLOSED as of June 2, 2022: middle loading dock. Boardwalks remain open at this time. Rec Centre ramps will remain open.
- Seventh Street South Dock – CLOSED as of June 2, 2022.
- Anicinabe Park Docks – CLOSED as of June 2, 2022
- Keewatin River and Portage Bay Boat Launches – CLOSED as of June 1, 2022
- Coney Island Docks – The north and middle dock on the Coney Island beach will remain open at this time. All other docks CLOSED as of June 2.
- Whitecap Pavilion Harbourfront Docks – OPEN, city crews will continue to monitor
- Matheson Street Pier – OPEN, city crews will continue to monitor
- Water Street Docks – OPEN, city crews will continue to monitor
- Hospital Emergency Dock – OPEN, city crews will continue to monitor
- Keewatin Wharf – OPEN, city crews will continue to monitor
- Keewatin Arena – OPEN, city crews will continue to monitor
In addition, they stated that, “Condition of the docks and launches can change quickly as water levels rise. Boaters are asked to use caution and survey the dock area before attempting to launch or dock to avoid personal injury.”
The City of Kenora asks for the public’s assistance with reporting flooding or rising water levels in the City. Concerns should are to be to sent by email to [email protected] to report water that is at concerning levels or flooded roads/areas. You may also call city hall between Monday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to report the concerns.
