Sudden death under investigation in Fort Frances

OPP are asking for the public's assistance as they investigate a suspicious death.

FORT FRANCES – Police are investigating the sudden death of a man Tuesday morning in Fort Frances.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, Rainy River officers located a deceased person on Tuesday, Jan. 5 around 10:14 a.m. at a Portage Avenue business.

Police say officers had been in the area investigating another matter.

Rainy River District EMS was called and the victim was pronounced deceased.

Police have determined the death to be suspicious.

The deceased has been identified as Daniel MORRISON, 37, of Lac La Croix First Nation.

Investigators believe there is no threat to public safety.

An investigation is being conducted by the Fort Frances OPP Detachment and Crime Unit, assisted by the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit and OPP Regional Support Team, under the director of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

A post-mortem was conducted Jan. 26, 2022 in Kenora.
