FORT FRANCES—Municipality schools across the region still want to keep the safety of students and staff a key priority. Northwest Catholic District School Board in Fort Frances shared a notice from Northwest Health Unit recently, that gave important tips to help the public continue to stay safe.
The notice spoke about the fluctuation in student school attendance. According to the Northwest Catholic District School Board, “Absences in schools and child care increase and decrease on an ongoing basis, similar to how COVID-19 rates go up and down in our communities. When absences are high it means that students are staying home when they are not feeling well. Although this may be challenging, we thank you for doing the right thing, even when its not the easy thing to do.”
The Northwest Health Unit shared seven key components to remember in an effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and in our community.
- Reducing the spread is the goal.
- It's nobody’s fault. Don’t blame anyone for getting or spreading COVID-19.
- Be mask-friendly. Respect the decision of others to wear a mask or not.
- Masks must be worn by students, for several key reasons as listed in this notice.
- Be cautious if you have been around someone who is sick.
- Follow the basics such as staying hydrated, eating nutritious food and getting enough sleep.
- Get vaccinated.
The notice informed their school community that they can access up to date absences rates by visiting Ontario’s website.
In addition, anyone who has been in contact with a person with COVID-19 or experiences symptoms of COVID-19 can visit: www.ontarioi.ca/exposed for helpful instructions.
The Northwest Catholic District School Board continues to monitor the situation and wants to keep its school community informed, healthy and safe.
