SIOUX LOOKOUT — Sol Mamakwa’s wife has died.
The Kiiwetinoong MPP and deputy leader of the provincial NDP announced Pearl Mamakwa’s death in a social media post on Sunday.
“It is with deep sadness and heartbreak that we share the sudden passing of our beloved Pearl Mamakwa,” Sol Mamakwa wrote. “She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother. Pearl’s strength, kindness, and unconditional love were the foundation of our family, and her absence leaves a void that can never be filled.”
“This unexpected loss has shaken us deeply, and we are still trying to process the reality of life without her. We are grateful for the time we had, and we will carry her spirit with us always,” his post continued.
A number of Mamakwa’s colleagues also offered their condolences.
“It is with great sadness that I share news about the sudden passing of Pearl Mamakwa, the beloved wife of NDP MPP Sol Mamakwa,” said a statement from Donna Skelly, the speaker of the provincial legislature and Progressive Conservative MPP for Flamborough–Glanbrook.
“The Legislative Assembly of Ontario extends its heartfelt condolences to our dear friend Sol, his family, friends and colleagues. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.”
Mamakwa’s NDP party leader Marit Stiles also publicly gave her best wishes.
“I am heartbroken to share this tragic news today,” Stiles posted to Instagram.
“Our hearts are with Sol, his children and grandchildren, and the community that is shaken by this unexpected loss,” she continued.
“On behalf of the Ontario NDP, Sol’s colleagues and friends in our caucus, I am extending my deepest condolences to Sol and his loved ones. May she rest in peace.”
“This is terribly sad news. We grieve for @solmamakwa and his family. And we are here to support you. May Pearl rest in peace and may you find comfort in fond memories of your time together,” Green Party leader Mike Schreiner posted to X (formerly Twitter) Sunday evening.
“Devastated to learn of the passing of MPP Sol Mamakwa’s wife, Pearl,” Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie posted to X. “Sol — our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this heartbreaking time.”
