THUNDER BAY – One person has been hospitalized and a suspect arrested in a Kababonika Lake First Nation stabbing.

Nishnawbe Aski Nation Police, in a release issued on Thursday, said officers were called to a residence in the community in the morning hours of Wednesday, June 25 after a disturbance call was issued.

Upon arriving on scene, they learned there had been an altercation and an adult male had been injured in the assault.

The victim, however, was no longer on the scene, having already been taken to the community nursing station for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries.

He was later transported to Thunder Bay for more extensive treatment. Police have not released the extent of the injuries, but said they’re not believed to be life-threatening.

A 25-year-old woman from Kasabonika Lake First Nation was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and two counts of possession of a weapon for dangerous person.

The accused appeared in court on Thursday and was released with conditions.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
