BEARSKIN LAKE FIRST NATION – A 32-year-old Bearskin Lake First Nation man is behind bars after a recent stabbing in the community.
Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, in a release issued on Tuesday, Aug. 19, say they were called on Friday, Aug. 15 to the community nursing station after nurses reported attending to an injured male. Officers learned the victim was involved in a recent assault and received injuries consistent with a stabbing.
The injuries are unknown at this time, but aren’t believed to be life-threatening.
Police identified a male suspect, who was located later that morning in the community. The suspect appeared to be intoxicated and officers said they found him in the driver’s seat of a pick-up truck, it’s engine running.
Police later located and seized firearms in the home of the accused.
The accused was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, operation of a motor vehicle while impaired (alcohol or drugs), careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition and four counts of careless storage of a firearm.
The suspect appeared in court on Saturday, Aug. 16 and was remanded into custody to face a future court date.
