KASABONIKA LAKE — The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service reported Tuesday that a man was injured in a stabbing incident this weekend.
Police said he was flown to Thunder Bay for treatment after he was attacked with a weapon in Kasabonika Lake First Nation. The exact extent of his injuries is unknown but they are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police have made an arrest in connection with the incident.
Officers were called early Sunday morning to investigate an incident at a residential address in the remote community 600 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.
They were told the perpetrator also assaulted a woman who attempted to intervene.
The alleged assailant was not at the scene when police arrived, but was located and apprehended later.
A 30-year-old resident of Kasabonika Lake First Nation is charged with aggravated assault, assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and break and enter with intent to commit and indictable offence.
He appeared for a bail hearing Sunday and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
