NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO -- Environment Canada says significant snowfall will begin early Wednesday morning.

The government weather agency says the heaviest snowfall is expected Wednesday and easing in intensity to periods of snow late this afternoon. Periods of snow will likely continue through Thursday.

Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 centimetres with locally higher amounts are possible. Snow rates of two to five centimetres possible leading to significantly reduced visibility at times.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

  • Atikokan - Shebandowan - Quetico Park
  • Upsala - Raith
