ONTARIO – The Ontario Native Women’s Association invites community members to participate in a province-wide clean-up effort.
“This Earth Day, we need to thank the Creator for the gifts of life that flow so freely from Mother Earth,” says Cora McGuire-Cyrette, executive director, Ontario Native Women’s Association. “All around us, we see a destruction of our world that plays out, not only physically but in negative behaviours that are tearing at the very fabric of our lives. When we treat Mother Earth with love and respect, we move us all toward a better world.”
Their Chapters and Councils across the province have received cleaning kits to encourage as many people as possible to participate.
The Ontario Native Women’s Association asks the public to join them in making a collective difference by going out into your neighbourhood to pick up debris and garbage. This effort can help reduce the harmful effects on the environment.
“If we build a society based on honouring the earth, we build a society which is sustainable and has the capacity to support all life forms," says Winona LaDuke
While community members are taking part in this important initiative, The Ontario Native Women’s Association encourages participants to share a photo and a story from their clean-up journey on The Ontario Native Women’s Association website to win prizes.
No initiative is too small when you have only one world to share.
