DRYDEN - The province's police oversight agency has invoked its mandate following an incident last month in Dryden.

According to a release issued by the Ontario Provincial Police, officers were dispatched to a disturbance on the Government Road overpass at about 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 22.

At the time police issued a notice to the public to avoid the area because of an active investigation.

The website of the Ontario Special Investigations Unit acknowledges the incident as a custody injury, but offers no further details at this time.

OPP officials say upon arrival at the scene, an individual was located in medical distress, adding officers administered first aid before emergency medical services personnel transported the person to hospital for treatment.

At this time, the OPP is unable to make any  further comment.
