SIU and OPP investigating incident in Deer Lake First Nation

DEER LAKE FIRST NATION — The Special Investigations Unit has dispatched a team to Deer Lake First Nation, 580 kilometres north of Thunder Bay, after an incident Tuesday afternoon.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service reports that an adult male was injured following an interaction with NAPS officers.

The individual's condition and the nature of his injuries were not disclosed.

The SIU has confirmed that they have invoked their mandate to investigate and said the OPP is providing non-frontline supports.

An SIU spokesperson said they are not providing further details at this time as the matter is under investigation.
