SIOUX LOOKOUT – Even with the recent turmoil of battling against the flooded area of Sioux Looking, Mayor Doug Lawrance shows that despite the rising waters, there is still pride.

Sioux Lookout joins the celebration of Pride month by honour the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

“Sioux Lookout has a long and proud tradition of embracing diversity in all its forms – cultural, social, and ethnic; and the community of Sioux Lookout is immeasurably enriched by the diversity of our people, including those members of the Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer + (2SLGBTQ+) communities,” Lawrance announced in an official statement.

Lawrence goes on to encourage all residents regardless of sexual orientation, to celebrate together in recognition of the rainbow of diversity with which our 2SLGBTQ+ community contributes to Sioux Lookout.”

Pride is felt all around the Northwest region as local communities begin to acknowledge the struggles and barriers of 2SLBGTQ+ people.

Nearly every township has made their proclamation to support 2SLGBTQ+ rights and incentives that affirm respect for the dignity, equality, and visibility of 2SLGBTQ+ people and families.

The global pandemic has increased the isolation, anxiety, and insecurity of some of society's most vulnerable citizens, including 2SLGBTQ+ people and youth.

Therefore, Lawrance, proclaims, “June is Gay Pride Celebration Month,” and he encourages all residents regardless of sexual orientation, to celebrate together in recognition of the rainbow of diversity with which our 2SLGBTQ+ community contributes to Sioux Lookout.
