SIOUX LOOKOUT – Battling a disease like cancer is, without a doubt, horrific. Even more so when finding out that a person at the beginning of their life has been diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma.
On June 23rd, 2022, Jackson Bramwell Hindy was diagnosed with an extremely rare type of cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Ewing’s Sarcoma occurs in the soft tissues around bones or the bones themselves.
Unfortunately for young Jackson, the cancer is located in his face.
As a result, Jackson will be undergoing treatment which includes chemotherapy and surgery over the next year at Winnipeg’s Health Science Center.
Additionally, to help support Jackson, Jackson’s parents, Jeff Hindy and Harriet Monias will be relocating to Winnipeg to stay close to their son.
The move will require the family to take extended leave from work, which will put a significant financial burden on them and their four children.
Therefore, they are asking for any support the public may be able to give for Jackson, his parents, and his siblings so that they can be in Winnipeg for Jackson and his recovery.
So far, the Go-Fund-Me page has raised $21,213 of its $40,000 goal.
Jackson will start chemotherapy next week, followed by surgery and potentially other procedures. He will spend 2-5 days in the hospital for each treatment session, this repeats every second week. Because of the complex nature of where his cancer, he must stay near the hospital for ongoing observation throughout all his treatments as well as ongoing tests.
Jackson just graduated from Grade 2 at Sacred Heart School in Sioux Lookout. His parents say that he is smart beyond words and was reading street signs and ad signs when he was 4 years old. His favourite past-time is Fortnite gaming with close friends, and he is extremely knowledgeable about dinosaurs.
