Silver Starlets come to Red Lake

The Silver Starlets performed in Red Lake earlier this week.

RED LAKE --  The acrobatic duo the Silver Starlets performed in Red Lake on Tuesday as a part of the Family Entertainment Series group.

The Red Lake Family Entertainment Series is a local group that brings family friendly entertainment to the community. After a long hiatus due to COVID, the group has now been able to start bringing back the acts that were planned before the first lockdown.

This event, called The Silver Starlets, featured two female acrobats, Molly and Glory from Toronto. Their act was performed on a 20-foot-high trapeze, and included stunts like trapeze, ropes, hula-hoops, and even some audience participation.

"The Silver Starlet duo was creative, witty, engaging, very entertaining and fun to be around. It was a pleasure hosting them," says group leader Renée Bausch.

Evolution Mining sponsored the event, which made it free for all to attend. 177 people were in attendance. The event was scheduled to be held at Centennial Park, but due to the intermittent rain forecasted for Red Lake, it was moved to the gymnasium of the Red Lake Madsen Public School.

Bausch had her son, Tai, do the introduction for the show. She hopes to continue to have kids volunteer to do the introductions at future shows.

"It should be presented by kids, and public speaking is a number one fear. Why not start them young," says Bausch.

The Family Entertainment group is a non-profit, volunteer-based group. They are funded through donations and grants, and this event brought in $362 in donations from the generous audience.

Additionally, Angela Wesolowski ran a concession that raised $200; this money was then donated to the Community Club Basketball Program.

The group has tentative plans to bring in four more acts this 2022-23 season. They hope to bring back the shows that were planned to come into town pre-COVID.

"This was our first show back since 2020, everyone had such a great time seeing a live performance again," says Bausch.
