THUNDER BAY – The Superior International Junior Hockey League has found its man.
The eight-team circuit on Friday announced it has hired Dean Thibodeau as its new commissioner, taking on the role after Darrin Nicholas stepped down earlier this year to pursue other opportunities.
Thibodeau arrives in Northwestern Ontario after spending time as the associate commissioner of hockey operations with the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and the assistant commissioner of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
"I am honoured and excited to serve as the next Commissioner of the SIJHL as we continue to grow the brand and expand the exposure of our players, teams, and communities. I would like to thank the Board of Governors for their diligence throughout the hiring process,” Thibodeau said in a release issued on Friday by the league.
“The passionate commitment to the league is evident and I look forward to leading all the teams toward success in reaching our collective goals.”
Mike Sveinson, vice-chair of the SIJHL’s board of governors, said Thibodeau’s experience is what won him the commissioner’s job.
