RED LAKE — The Municipality of Red Lake has officially pulled the Miss Mckenzie II Ferry out of service for the season.
The municipality over the weekend reported that ice has formed in the channel, making the ferry unsafe to operate.
The ferry operates seasonally, connecting McKenzie Island to mainland Red Lake at its dock in Cochenour.
According to Environment Canada, the weather in the Red Lake area is considerably mild with a high of -5 C and a wind chill near -13. There will be a 40 per cent chance of flurries near noon and a mix of sun and cloud.
Overnight there will be a few flurries with southwest winds of 20 km/h becoming light after midnight. The temperature will remain steady near -7 C with a wind chill near -15.
Later in the week, temperatures are expected to rise once again by Friday, with a high of -2 C and a low of -5 C overnight.
